Wassily Kandinsky (December 16, 1866-December 13, 1944) is an art theorist and painter from Russia. In general, it is often considered the founder of abstract paintings.
Kandinsky was born in Moscow, Russia and spent his childhood in Odessa. In 1886, he entered the University of Moscow and studied law and economics.
In 1896, at the age of 30, Kandinsky abandoned the law and political economy and went to Munich to begin learning painting. And the symbolist painter Franz von Stuck became a teacher of Kandinsky.
His early works were influenced by Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism, Symbolism and Forvism, and drew pictures that appeal directly to the viewer's senses with bold colors.
Since 1910, he insisted that colors can be used autonomously in paintings, apart from a visual depiction of the shape of an object. This period of work is considered the first abstract painting.
In 1911, he formed "der Blaue Reiter" with Franz Marc.
Kandinsky's paintings are based on the harmony of color and shape and insist that it must be based on the principle of touching the human soul in a strict sense.
