After 8 days in quarantine, the Four Eyed Butterflyfish I received from Sea Life Inc. are feeding on most anything I offer them. First, I gave them some Aquathrive Pellets, and interestingly, this is the FIRST TIME I've offered them this food.
A true testament to how far we've come...one of the "doomed" butterflies now has a fighting chance. I credit hand-caught to-order fish coming through a quality supplier (the Nedimyers @ SealifeInc.net) and a very short supply chain. I credit an improved understanding of fish husbandry in general. I credit improved foods, especially Nutramar Ova. I credit the use of QUARANTINE tanks - these fish likely would not have settled in if dumped into a busy tank. I credit planning - I also had on hand live blackworms, and had been culturing them for months in anticipation of this project. And finally, I credit experience, 24 years of honing instincts, something that simply cannot be substituted for. Still, 2 of the 7 I received died within the first couple days, and the smallest one was removed to the breeder net above. There is still much to be learned about keeping Chaetodon capistratus successfully in captivity, and I don't suggest anyone just rush out to try this!
